Background: In July 2006 and 2007 Service For Peace brought youth from the Middle East and Europe in Austria together to experience weeks of cultural exchange and friendship. The weeks resulted in colorful cultural events and could attract many sponsors. In 2008 a young party from the UK and Austria traveled to Israel and Palestine engaging in dialog at Universities and conducting a service project. In the summer of 2009 SFP wants to take its “Europe Meets Middle East” Program to the next level. Purpose: This year’s project focuses empower young people to take initiative for sustainable development in their communities. For this reason we will bring Youth from the Middle East and Europe together to learn about planning, constructing and implementing “Ecological Playgrounds” in their respective communities. Using the methodology of experimental learning the participants will build an “Ecological Playgrounds” themselves during the project. Key Data: Project Time: August 1st – 15th, 2009 Project Location: Steyr, Austria First week all participants will be accommodated in a youth hostel at the foot of the Austrian Alps. During the second week the participants will stay at the houses of the Austrian Participants. Participants: 7 Germans, 7 Israelis, 7 Palestinians and 7 Austrians (gender balanced, 18 to 26 years old) plus 4 team leaders Participation Fee will depend on the participants financial circumstances
